• profileWelcome to JulesInColor.com, the personal blog of a girl named Jules - that's me! I'm a 23 year old wife and full time nursing student living in Southern California.

I'm an avid coffee drinker, Apple user, pink enthusiast, music lover, and tech nut. I've been blogging for many years now, but as of late you can keep up with me more frequently on Twitter or Plurk. For the rest of the story, read on!

Oh hai!

WOW, how fast time can go by without updating when one lacks little to no time to think about time actually going by!

Did you get all that?

I actually updated once several weeks ago, but since changed the privacy of it due to feeling like a complete tool after I reread it. Yeah. Just a bunch of feeling-sorry-for-myself and being fickle. ANYWAY.

I am a Californian by birth - my dad grew up in Los Angeles, and we’ve lived here for 16 years now (and since we know I’m 23, and I can do math - 7 of those years were spent in Japan kthx). So can you believe that in all that time, I never once stepped foot in Mexico? I KNOW! Well, the spell finally broke and I can officially say that I’ve been there, done that. We went to Mexico, near Rosarito, for the beautiful wedding of a beautiful couple and it was. Amazing. Amazing food, fun Mexican music, TONS of dancing (not by me, of course…), OPEN BAR, and partying until 2 in da mornin. But the funnest part was the trip back across the border - 1 hour traffic and being greeted by vendors in the middle of the road. LOL. It was really horrifying, I just kept thinking about some little kid getting hit by a huge SUV while juggling for money.

We’re trying to plan another trip, this time to Cancun, but things are on hold for now considering the week break I thought we were getting in between this class and the next is not happening. So, I think DH is planning a trip to Anaheim for Blizzcon in October. At $100 a ticket and probably the need to stay over night/eat/stuff, we’re looking at easily a $1000 trip to a place an hour or two away. SO, yeah. But I’m STOKED, even though the possibility of me playing WoW or any other video game is nonexistant at this point. I missed Comic-Con at the convention center this year AGAIN, and I’m even more annoyed at the fact that there was absolutely no way I could go to the one day I wanted to (Thursday, for the Twilight movie panel/autographs) because of school. Only, there may be less screaming 12 y/o fangirls at Blizzcon (screaming 30 y/o otaku will still be there, however). Or, one can hope.

BTW, the lovely Teresa is giving away a cupcake scented gift set by Embrace Bath & Body, over at her personal blog. The contest is for USA and Canada only. GO GO GO! The contest ends tomorrow!

Until next time!

Getting a Wii, and other life events.

I am happy to report that a Wii has finally landed in the lap of our abode! A refurbished one from GameStop for $20 off the normal price (after cleaning and testing at the Nintendo refurbish center). We have several refurbished electronic items, and another one on the way (our second refurbished flat-panel TV), and have had nothing but good luck with them. There are several signs of wear-and-tear on our Wii, but it plays fine and guess what - WE GOT A WII! So I all but jumped over the counter to hug the rep when he said they had a refurbished one. We purchased a 1-year replacement warranty, as well as another Wiimote and nunchuck, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl for $400. I’m happy! YAY!

I had my orientation on the 14th, and the first day of Nursing school is fast approaching (April 7th, to be exact). I was happy to see several familar faces in my orientation, so that was reassuring. There are about 50 people in my cohort, so our graduating class (for the Nursing Program, anyway) will be relatively small. Labs have the 50 people broken up into 4 lab groups, but the whole lot of us will be in the same lecture. That should be interesting… ha. …ugh, I need to order my books, like, ASAP. I don’t know why I keep forgetting to - if I hold off, I’m going to have to order them, possibly full price, through my school’s book store. And I really don’t want to do that.

I’m up to making 3 baby blankets for this year, so far - I’ve finally started on my Uncle’s baby blanket (pictures soon!), and it’s coming along beautifully! My manager’s assistant is having a boy around the same time as my Uncle, so I need to get a blanket rolling for her. A near-and-dear online friend of mine is pregnant as well, and due at the end of the year. What her and her new husband are having is still up in the air (I’m rooting for a boy). So I’ve got my work cut out for me! Several people online have gotten their coffee sleeves, which is exciting. Feedback is all positive, so far. DH is my muse - he’s given me an idea for a coffee sleeve, which I want to experiment with before I share anything about it. With all these projects, I’m really glad that it’s not hat/scarf season here in California anymore.

I’m practically drowning in a sea of papers that need to be filed or shredded. I finally got a relatively cheap-priced paper shredder this week, which we were in desperate need for. I spent the first hour within opening it just shredding accumulated papers from the past 6 months. I’m sure there are more around here, somewhere. I really want to get more organized, but it’s hard for me to stay focused. Any and all advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated :)

iNation?

I know there are so many people who will shake their heads, and maybe, vomit at the idea of it - I am officially obsessed with Apple products. Not too long ago, I told an online friend that I distinctly would never buy a computer from Apple, and then, that I was by no means a switcher (I just find the Macbook line the most visually pleasing AND compact of any laptops out there, with the Macbook Pro being exactly what I need and more from a computer, period). But I admit defeat, people. I have been sucked in.

I am no longer content with owning a 2 year old iPod Mini, or a effin’ fabulous Macbook Pro. I must have more! Firstly, I want an iPhone. I’ve made my wishes known to my awesomely Mac-hatin’ hubby, to which he shakes his head. We don’t have a plan with Cingular/AT&T/whatever their name this month, so the possibility of me even getting one is pretty slim. Secondly, I want a new iPod. I don’t need one, not even close. I only ever use my iPod in the car, of all places, plugged into the FM transmitter. Thirdly… I think I am retail-deprived at this point, so I pretty much want anything and everything we can neither afford nor need. (more…)
